Having recently retired from a successful career in high-tech finance, I’m now embracing my creative side, working on my debut novel which I hope will captivate readers with both its rich historical detail and the fact it’s a damn good story.

This all started with a ghost tour in Savannah Georgia when I heard the story of sixteen-year-old, Irish indentured servant, Alice Riley, accused of a crime she did not commit.  I was initially intrigued by her bravery in crossing an ocean in search of a new opportunity…only to meet a tragic end.

I have a lifelong love of books and I’m a total nerd when it comes to research so I found myself digging into thousands of original documents from Alice’s time. I discovered that Savannah itself was unique place full of people, social structures, and political forces that shaped her fate.

I quickly grew to believe that her story, the true story, needed to be told.

Being part Irish, I became particularly interested in the lives of the Irish indentured servants who came to the United States. Despite the significant number of people who arrived through indenture, and it wasn’t just the Irish, very few of their experiences have been documented—which I’m hoping will change with the publication of my book.

My hope is that I do Alice’s story justice – that I can capture the resilience, defiance, and enduring spirit of her voice which was silenced far too soon.
